The Dolder Grand

It is not every hotel lobby that allows guests to marvel at works of art as exclusive as Andy Warhol’s “Big Retrospective Painting” while they enjoy coffee and cake or engage in business discussions. And this is not the only famous piece that guests can discover during their stay at the Dolder Grand. Since its renovation and conversion by Foster + Partners, the luxury hotel in Zurich has impressed with its high-quality architecture and exquisitely finished interior design created by London-based United Designers. Over 100 works of art now adorn the Dolder Grand, imparting an even more exclusive atmosphere to the City Resort. 

Salvador Dalí, Fernando Botero, Jean Tinguely 

Most of the works of art can be found in the public rooms. Some, however, are reserved for hotel guests on the individual floors that host the rooms. Salvador Dalí’s “Femmes métamorphosées – Les sept arts” greets diners as they make their way into The Restaurant (18 GaultMillau points, 2 Michelin stars). As they approach the Spa, guests encounter the distinctive “Le Monde” by Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, and Fernando Botero’s opulent “Woman with fruit” lends a playful air to the spa terrace. Joan Miró, Keith Haring, Takashi Murakami ... the list of famous artists represented is long.

The signature style of Lord Norman Foster

From 2004 to 2008, the Dolder Grand was converted and renovated. The renowned London-based architecture practice Foster + Partners combined the Hotel’s historic Main Building of 1899 with modern architectural accoutrements. Two new wings – the Spa Wing and the Golf Wing – enclose the fully restored Main Building, tangibly linking past and future. The original “Curhaus” dating from 1899 presents itself anew as the luxury-class City Resort with 175 luxurious rooms and suites, exquisite cuisine, a spa encompassing 4,000 square metres and generous banqueting and seminar facilities. The Hotel’s elevated location between pulsating city and invigorating nature provides guests with magnificent views over Zurich, the lake and the Alps.
